The Institute of European Sport Development and Leisure Studies (IESF) offers annual summer schools for scholars, teaching staff and students from Chinese universities who have particular interests in comparative studies or transnational research projects.
The academic short-time training program aims at offering the opportunity to become familiar with several academic approaches on Europe such as sports systems, education systems, and sport governance. In addition, leisure sport, tourism, sport management, and other academic aspects of sport studies in Germany and Europe, and academic writing as well, will be covered.
The summer school also offers a framework for further orientation on study requirements at GSU in Germany.

A ticket for public transportation will be provided for the entire duration of the summer school.
Organizational matters
The IESF takes care for all relevant academic matters and the contents of summer school including the preparation and implementation of academic seminars and lectures.
Other accomplishments considering accommodation, meals, seminar rooms, field trips and individual activities at weekend will be fulfilled by the ECSDA.
Program
Each day two teaching sections are planned (from morning to afternoon). In order to obtain a substantial overview on sport, leisure and tourism the summer school combines theoretical seminars and practical experiences. For details see the flyer of previous summer schools.
Language
The language will at all times be English. In some cases, additional Chinese translation will be provided.
Examination, Grading and Certificate
At the end of the summer school a written test has to be passed. Based on the results a certificate will be issued by German Sport University Cologne.
Organization
· The IESF takes care for academic matters and contents of summer school;
· It is expected that all students take regularly part in the classes as well as in the field trips;
· For teacher/students’ group with advanced language skills, the attendance at seminars of German Sport University is offered;
· weekends are usually left for individual projects and field trips;
· Instructions given by the academics in charge or the researchers that guide the summer school have to be fulfilled.
